Canteen Service Co. of Maine is a family business. The company has been owned and operated by the Willey family since 1951, when James Willey, Sr. purchased the Bangor franchise of Canteen Corporation, one of the largest food and vending companies in the nation. Canteen Corporation is now part of the Compass Group, world-wide purveyors of contract food and vending services. We share in their concern for providing healthy choices for our food and vending customers, and our own in-house nutritionist works with our customers and monitors those choices. This unique service is part of what makes Canteen Service a leader in our state.

The southern Maine Franchise was purchased by the Willeys in 1981. Today, Canteen is intensely proud of its team of dedicated, professionally trained employees who provide top quality vending, office coffee, micro markets, dining centers and cafés, catering, water cooler, and secure delivery services to their fellow Mainers.

In Canteen Service Co. you have the benefit of a local, responsive business organization in which the owners take an active daily participation. As a franchise of Compass, this local company has the technical and logistical support of the world’s largest and most respected food service organization. As a franchisee of Compass, we have access to the full array of Compass training classes, including on-line courses, such as the Harvard Business School’s ManageMentor program, on-site seminars right here in Maine, and off-site courses at Compass locations out-of-state.

Being a Maine based company provides the flexibility, however, to do things the good “old-fashion” way. You will find your Canteen cafeteria staff and route people polite, neat appearing, and eager to please. Their trucks and equipment are clean and well-maintained. When you wish to speak with management at any of three operating locations, you will find them easy to reach, responsive to your questions, prompt and thorough in their follow-through. Food safety is priority one! All Canteen foodservice managers in Dining, Vending, Catering and Senior Meals are ServSafe certified. ServSafe is the foodservice industry’s leading food safety training and certification program provided by the National Restaurant Association.

Our Service Area

Canteen Service Co. operates a fleet of clean, well maintained vehicles that are dispatched daily from our Saco, Lewiston, and Bangor branches to our many accounts across the state. In addition, we operate attractive on-site cafeterias for many of our larger clients – as well as large scale catering services. We cordially invite you to inspect our clean, modern commissary kitchens and fully equipped vending branches, and the impressive on-site dining facilities which we operate.
